It’s the start of the summer and there's no better way to build your confidence than by implementing a new fitness routine. Working out boosts your endorphins, improves your overall mental health, and in turn builds your confidence! It may seem challenging at first to get going, but remember you’ll never regret a workout especially once you see yourself accomplishing your goals. Here are our 5 tips on what you can do right now to build your fitness confidence. Look good, feel good really is a thing!

 1. Have a plan

You must have an action plan in order to achieve your fitness goals. Take some time and really carve out a game plan. What is your why? What motivates you? What is your top goal? Ask yourself these questions first and then focus on what you can do to accomplish them. Create a weekly schedule of attainable and realistic workouts. You’ll feel a sense of accomplishment and empowerment crossing off each completed workout. Note that rest is equally important, so be sure to incorporate rest days into your schedule!

2. Invest in new workout clothes

Have you ever put on a new pair of running sneakers and magically you somehow ran your fastest that day? There is something to be said about wearing new clothes especially when working out. Putting on things that make you feel good subconsciously influences how you act. You’ll feel much more confident in a cute new athletic top than you would in a baggy old t-shirt. So think of it as an investment, and treat yourself! Try it out and see how much you’re pumped up for your next killer workout.

3. Join a class

Try something new that seems fun and excites you. There are a ton of different types of workout classes that will get your heart pumping, both in person and virtually. From treadmill based and spin classes to trampoline and dance workouts, there is something for everyone. Plus, being with others will keep you accountable and get you even more inspired to do your best. It’s a proven way to keep you motivated and empowered!

4. Compare yourself to yourself not to others

Workout buddies and group classes are great for accountability, but always remember to stay focused on yourself. It’s so important to keep in mind that everyone is on their own fitness journey. If you start to look at others and their progress, you’ll lose your mental stamina which is half the battle. When this gets tough try visualizing where you’ll be in 1 month, 6 months etc. Compare yourself to yourself. This will help keep you on track and push you to meet your goals.

5. Keep showing up

Lastly, consistency is key. Keep showing up. You don’t have to feel perfectly motivated or energized to sneak in a workout. You’ll have good days and not so good days, but as long as you keep at it there is no doubt you’ll make progress and improvements. As it is in life, your fitness ability is a journey. Once you start to feel good, your confidence will improve and it will get easier to keep showing up.

Next time you’re doubting your abilities, focus on all the positive benefits exercise has on not only your body, but also your confidence and mindset. Start off slow and build from there, you’ll surprise yourself on what you can truly accomplish!
